Consular Section Business Hours

The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Sofia is open Monday through Friday, except for American and Bulgarian official holidays, and closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Emergencies involving American Citizens:

24 hours a day: +359 (2) 937-5101 (via the Duty Officer)

Emergencies include: death, serious injury, serious illness, criminal assault, arrest, and emergency need for financial assistance.

AMERICAN CITIZEN SERVICES:

Passports, Registration/Information, Social Security, Notary Services:

Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

American Citizen inquiries about Nonimmigrant Visas: Inquiries may be made only in writing and addressed to the attention of Chief of Consular section :

NONIMMIGRANT VISAS (for temporary stays in the United States):

Interview required of all applicants who do not have a prior application refused within the past 12 months: BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.

IMMIGRANT VISAS (for permanent residence in the United States):

(includes immigration on the basis of family relationship, adoptions, fianceé petitions, employment-based petitions and the Diversity Visa Lottery): BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
