Ambassador Beyrle in an Interview on the BNT Show PanoramaAmbassador Beyrle talked about the recent changes in the Bulgarian government; the proposal to close duty-free shops in Bulgaria; military reform and joint military facilities; and the return of the Bulgarian nurses imprisoned in Libya, on the BNT interview show Panorama aired on May 16.
Ambassador Beyrle Praises the Bulgarian Government’s Efforts to Combat “Protected Smuggling”Commenting on the government’s intention to shut down duty free shops that had been a source of “protected smuggling” in Bulgaria for many years, in an interview for NOVA TV’s Na Chetiri Ochi Talk Show, Ambassador Beyrle described it as a piece of very good news that had come from the ruling coalition’s council held over the weekend at the Hissarya resort. The Ambassador said it’s in both the American and the Bulgarian interest for the government and the political system to be transparent and predictable to the utmost degree. Asked about the possibility for Kosovo to declare independence in the very near future, Ambassador Beyrle said that America had always been supportive of such a declaration. Yet, he continued, the important thing is for the Serbs to believe that the door to Europe is open for them and the only thing they need to do is to go through that door. ( |

January, 2008..."The Summer Work and Travel program, has become tremendously popular in Bulgaria. We expect to give visas to about 13,000 Bulgarian students in 2008. The program runs for four months. It gives university students the chance to earn money and experience American culture first-hand, working in a variety of jobs in locations across the U.S, from New York to Alaska . And, as a bonus, it also provides time and opportunity for students to travel throughout the States to see our historic landmarks, famous cities and breath-taking national parks." (

On Saturday, November 17, Ambassador Beyrle took part in the popular lifestyle talk show BNT’s Night Birds Piano Bar. The Ambassador shared his views about politics and politicians pointing out that honesty is the most important feature that a politician should have. The Ambassador talked about the Green Card Lottery noting that the desire to start a new life in America has been a traditional component of the country’s natural strength. Commenting on disappointment that the Bulgarians feel about the transition, he quoted an American saying “The grass on the other side always looks greener” and said that now we are on the other side and we see that the grass is not as green as we thought. "Problems always exist, the Ambassador said, the important thing is how we deal with them." (
